Loren Coleman at Cryptomundo writes about Mothman’s “birthday” — it was 44 years ago November that witnesses encountered the winged, humanoid creature in Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. From Cryptomundo:

On November 15, 1966, the World was introduced to the phenomenon that would become known as Mothman. After the first sighting reported by the press 44 years ago in the papers of the day, soon a copyeditor in Ohio, a fan of the “Batman” series then on television, would coin the word “Mothman” because it fit in the headlines better. The sightings of a “Big Bird” had become a “big insect” with one copyeditor’s action.

I love the red eyes on this thing, though I think it looks like either a balloon of some kind, or, photo-shopped/hoax, and lastly, possibly an insect of some kind but I doubt it’s the latter.

Should we be, as Lon at Phantoms and Monsters suggests, be keeping on eye on things to come in Germany?

Thanks to Lesley at The Debris Field for the link.
