It’s the Halloween season, my favorite time of the year. Usually I post a few vintage images on one of my blogs, but this year, I thought I’d extend that idea, and do a theme kind of thing. Images relating to the theme of my blogs: satan/devil/demons for UFO Mary, pumpkins for Orange Orb, monsters on Alien Art Genre, etc. My goal is to post an image a day but I don’t think I’ll quite get there but it’s fun trying. So in the spirit of themes and Halloween, here’s a Halloween image to enjoy.

Winged Humanoids Over Texas

Not Mothman but it is a story from Ken Gerhard of winged humanoid beings flying in the skies of Texas. Interesting in the context of the UFO sightings there, as well as the fires and drought. Holy humanoids, Batman! Reports of flying beings over South Texas The article discusses not just one, but several stories going back years in the area.

According to their account, it was during April of 2009 when the incident occurred. At the time, the lady of the household was standing in her driveway having a conversation on her cell phone, when she happened to glance up and spotted what appeared to be a huge, dark winged man gliding through the air! Startled and amazed, the woman ran into her house and yelled at her husband and son to come and take a look. All of them were in full agreement that they were in fact watching what appeared to be the form of a man-bat flying by.

Alaskan Mothman?

Interesting account of a Mothman type sighting in Tununak, Alaska on Phantoms and Monsters. This story has a Mothman is the devil angle. One witness tells of seeing, as a child, a man-like creature on top of his roof who had red glowing eyes and jumped high into the sky:

The Alaska Mothman: Dark Harbinger
On Monday (4/25) I posted an encounter with a Mothman-like humanoid in southwest Alaska. The witness stated that this was his first incident with the being and that descriptions of subsequent encounters would be forthcoming. To begin, I have again posted the first incident:

My first encounter with this thing most people call the Mothman was when I was nine years old and I remember it clearly like it was yesterday. I was walking back from my uncle’s place. I was walking on the sidewalk and I saw this man standing on top of my fathers house close to the edge facing west. He was all black he looked like a man. He stood about 7 or 8 feet tall. I shouted out at him but he acted like he didn’t hear me. I said “hey you…who are you?” I kept trying to get his attention…it was like I wasn’t there. But when I said “hey you’re standing on my house…who are you?” he looked at me for a few seconds.

Thanks to the John Keel: Not an Authority on Anything blog, this link to a clip from 1980, of David Letterman interviewing John Keel. One neat and surprising thing; Letterman says he thinks most people have seen UFOs, and probably think something’s going on, then he asks the audience to applaud if they’ve seen a UFO, and if they think we’re being visited. Letterman also comments that he accepts there probably is a Sasquatch type creature.

I love Andrew Colvin’s Mothman Photographers series, and his writing in general. I just ordered this book from Amazon and am looking forward to reading this new one from him.

Loren Coleman at Cryptomundo writes about Mothman’s “birthday” — it was 44 years ago November that witnesses encountered the winged, humanoid creature in Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. From Cryptomundo:

On November 15, 1966, the World was introduced to the phenomenon that would become known as Mothman. After the first sighting reported by the press 44 years ago in the papers of the day, soon a copyeditor in Ohio, a fan of the “Batman” series then on television, would coin the word “Mothman” because it fit in the headlines better. The sightings of a “Big Bird” had become a “big insect” with one copyeditor’s action.
